Take a Step into Tubac Culture at the Festival of Arts in February

Those visiting Tubac, Arizona this winter will be able to experience the 53rd Annual Tubac Festival of the Arts from February 8-12. Sponsored by the Tubac Chamber of Commerce, this major event of the year highlights the work of visiting artists, craftsmen and musicians from all over the U.S. and Canada. The range of culture displayed varies from whimsical sculptures to fine and popular art and New Age music.
Guests to Tubac’s Festival of the Arts will be able to dine at one of Tubac’s many fine restaurants. There will also be a food court populated with delicious vendors. 175 artists will be stationed among 100 unique shops, galleries, and artists’ studios on Tubac Road. Free horse-drawn trolleys will also be giving out rides during the day.
The Tubac Festival of the Arts had its start back in 1959, and is the longest running event of its time in the Southwest. The town of Tubac was first founded in the 1700s and is regarded as a vibrant art community. Admission is free, but parking is $6 per car. Parking revenue goes towards local organizations. Tubac is also home to the historic Anza Trail, a section of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail on the Santa Cruz River between Tubac and Tumacacori. This trail was the very route that Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza who led soldiers and settlers from Tubac to the Pacific coast in 1775. These people later founded the outpost that became San Francisco. The hike begins at either the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park or the Tumacacori Historic Park. It’s a great four mile hike to take to explore the nature and history of Tubac.
